Charlie pooped on the Proctor’s new carpet which is totally not his style. I knew then that something wasn’t right about the whole thing. I really couldn’t believe it was Charlie as that’s so out of place for him. Anyways, during the night Charlie woke up and ran down stairs. This behavior too was odd for him. He came back up a little while later. It wasn’t until the morning that I found that he had pooped on the floor. There was almost a trail of poop from the stairs to the front door. I guess he really had to go.
Well, I cleaned up the poop, and was getting ready to take him outside when he pooped again on the floor. Now, we are really treading on foreign territory here. He never poops inside and he can always hold it. Not only that, but it was really soft. Now I know this sounds gross, but it’s all in the details.
On the walk he was just pooping water. We went to church and left him in his crate; while we were gone he had diarrhea. The red flag was that there was blood in his stool as well. We took him to the vet were he had a temperature of a 101 and was dehydrated. They checked him over and got really concerned for him. So much so that they said that they may have to keep him over night incase he takes a turn for the worst. Not encouraging words.
They tested his blood and a stool sample. Both came back negative (which is good). They put a catheter on his leg to get some fluids in him and allowed us to take him home for the night. He ate his dinner (as he didn’t eat his breakfast) and drank his water. The vet gave us a pill that he needs to take once a day and a liquid that he has to take twice a day. He hates both. His stool is looking better now, but he is still kind of lethargic at times. He also doesn’t have a huge desire to eat when he is supposed to either. We are both concerned for him and are watching him closely. We are praying that he gets well soon. No more trips to the vet.

So sorry to hear he's doing poorly--I hope this is just a little blip in an otherwise long and healthy life for Charlie!
