Mary-Frances's parents moved to Salem

If you had not already heard, Mary's parents stayed with us for about a month while they looked for a new place to live.

We picked Mary-Frances’ mother up at the airport Saturday, Aug 21st as she arrived first. Dad was staying behind to take care of the last minute details before driving up.

We went out and saw The Help at the Cinebarre to celebrate her birthday that was earlier in the month. To make her stay more comfortable we bought an air-filter and some other necessities, like wine and Popsicle. Before she arrived I got to talk to some strange guy who delivered all her oxygen and machines so I would be able to work them if I needed to. Mary’s Dad arrived at the end of August with Ron (Mary’s brother-in-law), Rocky (Nephew) and the three dogs that would also be living with us, Buddy, Sophie, and Trudy. Ron and Rocky drove home the following day.

We got the dogs used to being in their crates while we were all out and about, but getting them to go outside when they had to, still needed some work. Charlie was jealous of the dogs for a while but I think he started to really enjoy their presence. He even played with Sophie a couple of times. This is a huge improvement for Charlie as he does not play normally. Buddy got me in trouble while I was out walking all four dogs at once. Trudy had stopped to poop, so I stopped to pick it up (with a baggy, not with my hand). Well a father and daughter were strolling down the sidewalk towards us, her on a three wheeler and him walking behind. Well, once the dogs saw them, I could not get them to stop barking and lunging for them. I held them back on their leashes, while the father encouraged his daughter to keep going passed. Well, Buddy got too close and grabbed the little girls pant leg. I pulled him off as fast as I could but it was too late. He had also nipped her leg. I apologized for Buddy's outburst. The girl started to squint her face up like she was hurt. Dad pulled up her pant leg to reveal the tiny red mark of Buddy’s nip. Well, that led the dad to proceed to tell me off in a nice set of colorful words about how I need to handle the dogs better. I am not sure what was going through his head walking by four barking and lunging dogs in the first place. I mean, nothing about their demeanor said "I am friendly come pet me", and I was holding them back. Perhaps his logic told him that he should not have to walk around to avoid us. But by that same logic I would assume he would then walk up to a gang of thugs with weapons and would be surprised that they attack him. Oh well.

While they stayed at our place, they had our old oil drum removed and hired some landscapers to come in and clean out all the over grown branches, remove some awfully placed trees and bushes and just made our house look prettier. We really appreciated that!

Mary’s parents found a rental that was brought to their attention via a member of our church. Mary put it in the weekly prayer list that her parents needed a rental, they saw it, said to themselves, "hey, we have a house that we cannot sell at this time, how about we rent it to this family?" They made contact, parents went out to see the home, loved it, filled out all the paperwork and moved in around September 30th. Their stuff arrived a few days late as the truck drivers got lost. Probably because of their map. All their stuff is now moved in and the house is pretty much set up. We had our first dinner together in their new pad on Saturday. That’s when we noticed that Charlie wasn’t feeling well.
